Guests were also treated to perfect summer night music by classical guitarist Clark Miller. Guests included CASA of East Tennessee Board Members: Laura Metcalf, John Tackett, Kelly Brennan, Andrea Kline, Arrin Zadeh, Kristi Jones, Wesley Allison, Kristi Bauer and Allison Starnes-Anglea. Happy New Year!
Our new service year begins July 1st – let’s celebrate!
2013-2014 – The Big Story!
During our 2013-14 service year, our volunteer corps grew by 27 thanks to strong recruiting, training and support efforts! Volunteers are the very heart of our organization and we are grateful to have such committed men and women speaking up on behalf of some our community’s most vulnerable children. Thank you!
CASA Training CornerWe are already training new volunteers for our 2014-15 service year! We have 4 talented candidates taking part in our summer, independent study. The group includes someone who’s been an active CASA in Knox County many years ago and another who completed training in the Tri-Cities area and is participating in a few sessions to review the differences in our Juvenile system before she takes her first case. We can’t wait to get them sworn in as advocates in August!
Our next regular training class starts in early September. Please contact our Volunteer Coordinator, Summer, for more information.
Board of Directors UpdateThanks to this year’s CASA of East Tennessee Board of Directors for their commitment and help growing our program. We thank Joe Fanduzz (right), for his commitment to CASA and service as Board President during the last several years. July 1st, we welcome Stephen L. Miller as President of the Board and look forward to his leadership during our 2014-15 service year. Please see our website for our complete Board listing.
With Great Appreciation . . .
To sponsors, donors and supporters who allowed CASA to train more volunteers and serve more children during our 2013-14 service year.
To Pamela Dickey, Program Director at ChildHelp who presented a very enlightening inservice program in June.
UT School of Law Pro Bono Program
Our CASA program is fortunate to collaborate with the UT School of Law’s Pro Bono program. Through this program, UT Law Students work invaluable hours towards the betterment of our program. This year, students helped us by researching grants, purging our case files and even volunteering at our Red Shoe Gala!
Conferences & Training
Staff and volunteers alike have had several recent opportunities to further our skills and knowledge base. The TN CASA Conference was held in early May (above) while the National CASA Conference was held June 7-10 in Grapevine TX. We are also lucky to have great training opportunities through the East Tennessee Council on Children and Youth like the Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome Overview & Update training in May.
Coming up Next: CASA Inservice Dates (noon at KCJC)
Wednesday August 6th – Forensic Interviews, ChildHelp
Wednesday September 3rd – Writing Great Reports!, Peggy

Thanks to all who attended and to our wonderful sponsors!

Fall 2013

Fall 2013 has been a busy time for CASA of East Tennessee! A few highlights are:

  • The launch of our new enewsletter (Sign up by following this link: https://app.e2ma.net/app2/audience/signup/1746444/1727648.8393888/?v=a )
  • The swearing in of a fantastic group of 10 new CASA volunteers! We are up to our largest number of active volunteers in the past 6 years and that means we’ll be serving even more children in the need of a voice.

Stay tuned for more news! Our next training class will most likely start in late January 2014.

Welcome to our new Staff Members

CASA of East Tennessee is pleased to welcome our newest staff members:

After serving in an interim position, Peggy Eighmy became our permanent Court Director in May. She brings a wealth of professional and CASA experience to her role at CASA of East Tennessee. Her office is located in the Knox County Juvenile Court building where she supports our volunteers with their casework and serves as our liaison with the greater Court community.

Summer Colbert is our new Volunteer Coordinator. She previously worked in a similar position at a CASA program in North Georgia and is very eager to help our program grow by recruiting and training more volunteers. She is also responsible for planning inservice opportunities. She will spend most of her time at our administrative offices.
