CASA of East Tennessee is busy with so many things this spring!

Our Knox County training class just started this week and continues through mid-April. It is our first combination Independent Study/Classroom training and we are excited to see the advocates that develop through this experience.

On April 21st, CASA of East Tennessee will be one of the participating nonprofits at the Knoxville Leadership Foundation’s Wells Fargo/Heels and Wheels Duathlon, presented by and taking place at Johnson University. We invite anyone interested to participate and support us at this great day that includes a 5k run/18k bike/3k run duathlon, a 5k run, and a Fun Walk. Lunch is also provided. We are creating an Annual Appeal as well as several Light of Hope events to raise awareness for CASA during April, National Child Abuse Awareness month.

Finally, mark your calendars for June 2nd – when CASApalooza will be the not-to-be-missed event of the summer! Great food from Outback Steakhouse, beer by Marble City Brewery and music by The Coveralls! Stay tuned for ticket information, coming soon!

Our Red Shoe Gala was a roaring success! A lively crowd dined on tasty hors d’oeuvres, bid on exciting auction items and even strutted their stuff in fanciful red shoes. All proceeds from this big night out benefit our work with abused and neglected children in the the courts we serve.

Hamblen County – Three new CASA volunteers were sworn in on Tuesday, October 4th in Hamblen County. Thanks to Brenda and Marie who trained these new advocates. We appreciate your efforts!

Knox County – Our next group of Knox County CASA volunteers has completed two of their classes en route to becoming sworn in to advocate on behalf of some of our community’s most vulnerable children. Our class includes both men and women, younger and older, retired and working folks – in other words, people like you! Our next training will most likely take place in January – stay tuned for dates as they develop.

Sevier/Blount Counties – Training will be offered in these counties soon. We are waiting for final information about meeting space so that we can set the dates. We’ll keep you updated!

On Saturday, June 4th, CASA of East Tennessee kicks off summer with a festive event to support our community’s abused and neglected children. Outback Steakhouse will grill on site as we listen to great music and check out a silent auction of unique items that you don’t want to miss! The fun starts at 6:00 pm on the plaza at Cherokee Mills, 2250 Sutherland Avenue. Tickets are $40 each and available by calling 865.329.3399.
