News & Events

Oh what a night!

The 2014 Red Shoe Gala was a great success! We had a great crowd on hand to enjoy delicious food from The Orangery, bid on festive silent auction items, and get photos taken with Dorothy! This fun evening furthers our efforts to serve some of our community’s most vulnerable children by providing them with trained volunteers who advocate for their best interests. Thanks to all who attended and to our wonderful sponsors!

Fall 2013

Fall 2013 has been a busy time for CASA of East Tennessee! A few highlights are:

  • The launch of our new enewsletter (Sign up by following this link: )
  • The swearing in of a fantastic group of 10 new CASA volunteers! We are up to our largest number of active volunteers in the past 6 years and that means we’ll be serving even more children in the need of a voice.

Stay tuned for more news! Our next training class will most likely start in late January 2014.

Welcome to our new Staff Members

CASA of East Tennessee is pleased to welcome our newest staff members:

After serving in an interim position, Peggy Eighmy became our permanent Court Director in May. She brings a wealth of professional and CASA experience to her role at CASA of East Tennessee. Her office is located in the Knox County Juvenile Court building where she supports our volunteers with their casework and serves as our liaison with the greater Court community.

Summer Colbert is our new Volunteer Coordinator. She previously worked in a similar position at a CASA program in North Georgia and is very eager to help our program grow by recruiting and training more volunteers. She is also responsible for planning inservice opportunities. She will spend most of her time at our administrative offices.

National CASA Conference, April 6-9 2013

Executive Director Ann Bowman traveled to Anaheim California to participate in the 2013 National CASA Conference. It was an amazing opportunity to share successes and strategies as well as bring back many good ideas to make our CASA program even stronger as we move forward.

A “Faces of CASA” campaign was launched at conference, illustrating all the different people from across the country that support the mission of serving abused and neglected children through advocacy. The picture below is included on the National CASA website and features many CASA Directors from the state of Tennessee (including Ann – back right). Upload your own Face of CASA picture today at
